June 15 store personI am working as a store person for safeway now.
So photography is on the backburner.
I always viewed photography as a hobby, an endless pit hole for throwing money in.
I tried, but soon realised that photography can not be the main source of income, at least for me.
Anyway, it is good to distinguish between a main job and a hobby.
Well, it is a good experience afterall.
Also, a photographer needs to be a people's person, something that I lacked.
Maybe one day I will go back to wedding photography again, but at the moment I am happy with what I am and decided to take a break from all photography work.
cheers

End game for HD-DVDToshiba Japan finally announced the inevitable news 'we are shutting down our hd dvd factories in northern japan'.
It was hardly surprising news at all, it becomes pretty obvious in xmas 07 that hd dvd won't stay for long, I just didn't expect it will last this short.
In a war of formats comparable to the video tapes in the 1980s, VHS vs. Beta max. HD-DVD althought technologically superior (similar to beta max), but loose out due to lack of public support.
When I first notice the manufactures in each next generation dvd camp, I started worry for toshiba, apart from microsoft, which is a nature enemy to sony, due to its game console. And three movie studios (paramount, universal, dreamworks), everyone else is with blue ray. Even panasonic, a traditional rival of sony is supporting blue ray format.
With strong sale of the PS3, blue ray becomes the market dominate force, and sony was smart to flood the market with blue ray dvd and promotion ads.
On the other hand, every the spokeswoman for hd dvd don't know the exact number of hd dvd available on aust market at that time.
Plus, hd dvd hardly makes any ads to promotes its awareness. Only JB hifi includes hd dvd players in its catalogue.
By the time when toshiba realise the change in market trend, they decided to slash the price of its hd dvd plyer to around aus $500 mark, but it was already too little too late.
To make the matter worse, retailers like blockbuster, walmart, bestbuys all pledge their loyalty to blue ray dvd.
This proves to be the last straw that breaks the camel's back.
At the end, it was good for the consumer that the format war is over. Although we might have to put up with a technologically less superior format, but we don't have to face the difficulties of choosing the next dvd player.
Guess the biggest looser was the hd dvd camp.

February 19 year of the ratDear All,
I went to the Chinese lunar new year festival hold in china town last weekend. There's only 1 word to describes it "chaos'.
5 mins into the show, I realised that I made one of the fundamental mistake in street photography: instead of being at the front of the crowd (and take pictures). I become part of the crowd, immobilised and caught up with this quagmire.
I end up have to (forced) watch lion dancing for almost an hour. I was thinking, 'wow, now I get it, those people were pretty smart. Instead of getting the real lions and worried about public safety. Why not just get a few of our guys dress up in the lion costume?
I also forgot to bring ear plugs and gas mask. The deafening sound of fire crackers plus the pungent smell of gun powder in the air, with people rushing/diving for cover, make it feels more like in a war zone.
Congrats to the event organiser, the 'shock and awe' tactics certainly works this time, to maximum effect!
Wish everyone great success in the year of the rat.
cheers
mark wu February 05 welcomeWelcome aboard, this is the place where you can see a collection of my work. Althought I advertise myself primarily as a wedding photographer. I also do portraits, event photography. Actually I started off my photographic career by going to festival and show, before I really concentrate on people photography. I hope you enjoy viewing my photos and revisit again from time to time. Please leave a feedback, I will be most interest to hear your comments. Thanks for your time. Mark Wu January 26 nye 07Dear All,
Just some of the photos I took on the last day of 2007.
Originally, I was planning to go out on nye, however, it was awfully hot, with the mercury hitting 42c degree, you really want to stay indoor with the aircon on.
Anyway, I felt since it was the last day of 2007, I should do something special and shouldn't just let the day slip away..
So I end up drove up to the nearest beach and shoot some random photos.
cheers
